Cinesthesia is cinema plus synaesthesia: seeing the sound, hearing the image. A format built for the Salle 1 of the Pathé Palace Opéra, a room equipped with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, where electronic music is played live to a seated audience for an hour and a half. Not a festive format. A contemplative one. The governing principle is narrow and it decides everything: the image reacts to the spatial structure of the Atmos mix, not to its amplitude. A visual volume appears when a sound travels across the ceiling. A lateral tension builds when the mix opens into the surrounds. The image compresses when the material collapses to mono. Anyone can make a picture pulse on a kick drum; this makes the picture a reading of where the sound is in the room. The visual writing is cinema-native rather than club-native. Scope 2.39 respected, long continuous shots, no fast cutting and no spectacular effects, a reduced palette, and black and visual silence used as material rather than as absence. Light events are rare, precise and meaningful. The whole evening holds one visual space that changes state as each artist plays: atmospheric, then architectural, then particulate. A triptych that runs from emergence to resonance, and dissolves into total immersion at the end. Conceived with Morninglory, the Paris collective behind five editions of hybrid immersive events. Visual direction by FMRXR.
